The Wright Ave

The Wright Ave. (Greensboro, NC), aptly named after a street in their hometown, is a progressive dark funk that takes you right down a wormhole. This quintet's sound absolutely oozes on the listener, turning rooms into dance floors almost with the first note. Composed of a rhythm and lead guitar, bass, drums, and an evil keyboard, the sound is uniquely their own.

The release of their studio debut Open Mind in 2022 saw the unit joined in studio by heralded guests such as Roosevelt Collier, Casey Cranford, and its producer Bill Stevens, who also mixed the record at Ovation Sound. Singles “Open Mind” and “West Coast” saw immediate independent radio play, and fan favorite “Tabernacle” would soon follow.

The Wright Ave. is road tested as well. Festival appearances include Resonance, The Big What?, Secret Dreams, Mountain Music, Roosterwalk, Shakori Hills, Mantrabash, The Heap, Mayday On McGee, Waccamaw, and many more. In addition, the band has been direct support for stalwarts George Clinton & P Funk, Melvin Seals & JGB, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Big Something, Dogs In A Pile, Todd Nance, The Mantras, Shwayze, Dr. Bacon, and so many more.

Looking forward the unit is beginning to lay the groundwork for a new record, new destinations and festivals, and of course returning to markets they’ve spent years building in. This band’s truly tight sound is continuing to evolve into its maturity, see them live and join the family.

Everyone loves bluesy-funk jams that melt faces. Am’mi Wright?
